The annual State of the State Address at the Glendale Civic Center was the who’s who in local politics for the West Valley on Thursday. From Mayors to education officials and including your very own Chamber leaders, the luncheon sponsored by WestMARC and the West Valley Chamber Alliance was attended by about 300 people.
Governor Jan Brewer discussed Arizona’s rich history, the centennial and focused heavily on the key issues facing our state, including jobs, the federal government and small business.
She re-assured the audience that the F-35 Join Strike jet would be coming to Luke Air Force Base after meeting with officials in Washington, D.C. last year.
The Governor also touted her success in turning around the State’s $8.3 billion budget and her plans to buy back the Capitol that was sold during the 2009 $3 billion budget short-fall.
Brewer, a resident of Glendale, encouraged every Arizonian to participate in the State’s centennial activities.
While in her last term, the Governor was proud of “standing up” to the federal government to protect Arizona and criticized the feds for not helping with the fires of 2011. Over one-perect of the State’s overall land mass burned.
She touted to the public in the West Valley and here State of the State Address that “Arizona has been saved.” The Governor expressed the cuts to red tape for new businesses as a major factor contributing to the State’s seventh-highest growth in the Nation and commented, “Arizona is open for business.”
Brewer said Arizona’s job growth last year was seventh-highest in the country, though she noted more can be done with tax cuts and loosening of regulations on small business.
